Tracee Ellis Ross’s Latest Pattern Beauty Launch is A Celebration of Black Beauty

Tracee Ellis Ross is launching a new phase of her Pattern Beauty haircare line. On Monday, Ross teased phase two of Pattern, which debuted its first collection in September 2019. “As we continue to protest and gather and strategize and hold those in power accountable and reimagine our future and vote, I am reminded that celebrating Black beauty is a part of this revolution,” Ross said in a message to her 8.3 Instagram followers. “And I’m reminded of the urgency that propelled me to persist for 10 years to create Pattern.”

Phase two will focus on a new styling collection designed to sculpt, shape, and define curls and coils with nearly 15 new products and kits. The new drop includes a hydrating mist that’s referred to as “nectar of the gods,” holding gels, styling creams, edge control, and new additions to the shower line. “It’s always been the plan to bring styling products to Pattern. Curlies, coilies and tight textures know our hair, the types of products that work for us, and what we want. We’ve been listening, and it’s been great incorporating feedback into the development of these new products. I’m super proud of how the brand and our community have come together as we continue to fulfill the beauty needs of the natural hair community,” Ross said in a statement.

The new drop is available on June 19 or Juneteenth, which honors the day slavery formally ended in the U.S. In her announcement of the new phase, Ross spoke about the power in having a Black-owned business during a major moment in the Black Lives Matter movement. “I’m reminded the importance of being a Black-owned business and of why Pattern has been centered around the beauty of Blackness from the start,” Ross explained. “I’m reminded of the importance of being an active space where we can see ourselves. And our humanity. And our joy. And our glory. And our softness. And our strength.”

Pattern Hydrating Mist

“Some call this curl refresher a ‘nectar of the gods’ for its other-worldly ability to reactivate, rehydrate and protect curls from environmental stressors. Crafted with Aloe Vera, Coconut Oil and Avocado Oils to drench thirsty strands in essential nutrients.” ($7 for 3 oz, $18 for 12 oz)

Pattern Jumbo Hydration Shampoo

“Creamy, luxurious, and boosted with a blend of oils, the Hydration Shampoo gently lathers to cleanse the hair and scalp removing buildup without stripping away moisture.” ($38 for 25 oz)

Pattern Hair Pick

“Lift that crown to glorious heights with the extra-long prongs that shape, add volume, elongate, and revive styles all week long.” ($9)

Pattern Edge Control

“Style and smooth your baby hairs with this long-lasting, healthy hold formula. Aloe Vera and Panthenol nourish and protect delicate hairs without leaving white flakes or residue behind. While styling, dab along edges or apply on top of slick back styles with the Pattern Edge Tool or fingers.” ($12 for 4 oz)

In her video message, Ross referred to hair as the “portal into our souls,” emphasizing the pride she felt in making products that will serve the needs of Black women everywhere. “I’m reminded that sharing the beauty of Blackness, the power of Blackness, the importance of our Blackness—has always been urgent.”

Phase two of Pattern Beauty will be available at patternbeauty.com this Friday and Ulta Beauty in stores and online on June 28, 2020.
